Respite Care and Specialized Support
We understand the importance of offering respite care, especially for families who need support in managing the care of their loved ones. Our respite care homes provide safe, nurturing environments for Tangata Whaikaha.
Respite Care Homes
Glenbrook, Wattle Bay, Papakura, Weymouth, Mt Wellington
We operate a number of respite care homes across various locations. These homes are designed to provide a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for both children and adults with intellectual or physical disabilities.
1:1, 2:1, or 3:1 Mentoring
Depending on the needs of the individual, we offer one-on-one, two-on-one, or three-on-one mentoring. This provides the necessary attention and specialized care for those with low or high complex needs.
Fully Staffed Working Bee
Before we provide our daily specialist support, we organize a fully staffed working bee to meet both the indoor and outdoor needs of the home. This can last between 3 to 7 full days, during which we clean, organize, and prepare the space for our ongoing care.
Holistic Approach to Health and Well-Being
We take a holistic approach to health, addressing not just the physical needs but also emotional, social, and cultural needs. This approach ensures that we support the individual in every aspect of their life.
Te Ao Māori Integration
We are deeply involved in the Māori community and welcome all Tangata Whaikaha into aspects of Te Ao Māori, the Māori world. If consent is granted, individuals and their whānau are encouraged to participate in marae noho wananga, where they will be immersed in Te Reo Māori, waiata (songs), kapa haka (traditional performing arts), poi (Māori dance), haka (war dance), and most importantly, whakawhanaungatanga (building relationships).
This cultural immersion provides a sense of belonging and identity and supports the social and emotional well-being of those in our care.
Encouraging Independence
We work alongside Tangata Whaikaha to encourage independence. By cleaning, cooking, and supporting them through daily tasks, we help them build skills and confidence so that they can eventually maintain these tasks independently.
Individualized Care Plans
At the start of our engagement, we design an Individualized Care Plan (ICP) with the Tangata and their whānau. This plan is holistic and covers all areas of health and well-being, and is reviewed regularly to ensure that goals are being met and adjusted as needed. Initially, the plan is reviewed weekly for the first three months, then fortnightly for the next month, and monthly thereafter.
Setting and Achieving Goals
We believe in empowering Tangata Whaikaha and their whānau to set both short-term and long-term goals, focusing on progress, achievement, and rewarding success.
Short-Term and Long-Term Goals
We work with individuals and their whānau to set both short-term and long-term goals that align with their personal aspirations and care needs. These goals are built into monthly care plans to help track progress and celebrate achievements.
Reward-Based Systems
As part of our care plans, rewards are set to encourage and celebrate milestones. This helps to motivate and inspire individuals, while also recognizing their hard work and progress.
The services we offer are centered around enhancing the quality of life for Tangata Whaikaha and their whānau. Through a combination of personalized support, holistic health practices, cultural integration, and goal-setting, we aim to foster independence, safety, and well-being. Each individual is supported in a way that respects their unique needs and aspirations, ensuring they are empowered to lead fulfilling lives.
